Got a haircut...actually, he got 'em all cut

Hayden got his first haircut yesterday.

We were out and about running errands and decided to hit Sport Clips.

He did so good, and sat very still...

Until the end and then he was done...Bless his heart!

Excuse the background...I forgot to take pics at Sport Clips because he was upset.
Uggg...why didn't I pic the cereal aisle??
I finally remembered in the grocery store....on the wine aisle.

I think he looks so big now!

My Superbowl Pic

I am a HUGE Cowboys fan. Always will be...they are my team.

But my second favorite NFL team is the Chargers, and my third favorite team is...

The Saints!

(images from google images)

Here's to hoping my third favorite team wins the Superbowl!!!!

I'm excited about next Sunday. I'm already sad that it is all about to be over. Then I have to wait 'til August for the season to start again. {sniff sniff}

rub a dub dub

I love bath pictures.
I rarely have the camera handy when the kiddos are in the tub, but I did the other day. I snapped a few shots. Hayden started hamming it up when he saw the camera.

He has drool streaming from his chin because he used the cup that I rinse them with and got himself a big gulp of bath water.

Layla is looking at him like he lost his mind.
He is showing her his nasty 'bathwater' teeth.

Eeeiiiww.
She said, "Hayden you are nasty, I can't believe you just did that!!!"

a recent coloring page

Layla colored the picture below. It is a picture of Callaway, one of our dogs.
{pictured with her above}
She loves our dogs and sometimes they love her. They are older and she is kind of loud.
They like quietness. There is a lack of quiet in our house.

See the pic she colored. Looks just like him.

Complete with whiskers, a red eye {huh?} and what she called a tumor on his ear.
I'm not sure when he got a tumor on his ear, but when I asked her what it was, I thought she would say it was an earring. Not. so. much.

So I know what you are thinking.
Why would a four year old color a tumor on her dogs ear? He had one removed from his leg awhile back. {see it in the color pic above}
She talks about the tumor often.
She notices when he gets more bumps and growths as he gets older. They are just 'dog bumps' that most dogs get when they get older.
AND he is VERY pale and sunbathes all. the. time!
He is completely healthy for an almost 12 year old dog, and we love him very much. I'm hoping he will be around for many more years. I'm also hoping that he will stop growing these bumps and stuff so my daughter will stop worrying her little four year old self to death about him.

Half Birthday

Hayden Cole had his half birthday on Monday.

He is 18 months old.

As you can see from this picture he would be lost without his pointer finger. Since he doesn't say much he gestures and points to everything of interest to him.

The only things he says are:

  • Momma
  • Dadda
  • Yaya {layla}
  • Wow!
  • Yea!

He also says "E" for Elmo, airplane, and/or drink. He points to whichever "E" is.

Hayden is quite the jokester. He makes me laugh every day. He is such a joy to have as a son. He does have quite the temper, and when he is angry or upset he holds his breath and cries like crazy. It takes years off my life. Hhhm. I did the same thing when I was his age.

He isn't using the pacifier anymore, but now cries sometimes when we lay him down for bedtime or nap time. He never cried before, but he is getting older and wants to know what is going on outside his room.

This busy boy can run like the wind, kick a ball, throw a ball, and clown around with the best of them. He does everything his sister does, good/bad. He uses a fork/spoon like an old pro. [to me that is impressive because Layla didn't use a utensil that well until she was almost three.] He points to most of his body parts when we ask him where they are. He likes to get books from the playroom and we try to read to him, but he gets up and finds other interests really quickly. He colors like big sissy, but gets bored with that too. He made Gary a scribbly birthday card because sissy did.

He is weighing in at around 26 pounds, and we'll visit the doc in Feb. to get his 18 month checkup. I feel so lucky to have a boy and a girl. The two sexes are completely different...it amazes me everyday.

I can't believe that in 6 short months I will be the mom to a 5 year old and a 2 year old.

Happy half HC!!

Eight of my favorite 'Go to Dinners'

Happy Tuesday Y'all.
♥♥♥
Today I am sharing some of my favorite dinners.
The newest one {posted below} is one that we have been eating about once a week and it is a super supper! I usually have everything on hand, so it is quick and easy.
You MUST use fresh squeezed lemons. It makes this recipe.

What y'all will need:

2 pounds of shrimp peeled and de veined

Olive oil

salt and pepper

1 pound of angel hair pasta {or whatever you have on hand}

1/2 stick of unsalted butter, melted

zest and juice of 2 lemons

What y'all need to do:

Heat the oven to 400 degrees. Put shrimp on a sheet pan with 1 tbs olive oil, salt and pepper. Toss it all around and lay them in one layer. Roast for 6-8 minutes.

Easy enough....next:

Add pasta to salted boiling water. Cook until al dente about 3 minutes. Drain liquid reserving some of the liquid. Toss the angel hair with the melted butter, 1/4 cup of olive oil, lemon zest and lemon juice. Salt and pepper to taste and add the reserved liquid if necessary, then add the shrimp.

Super easy and so stinkin' yummy.

This quickly became a household favorite;)

Look...

Mmmmm....as you can see we ate it with asparagus.
I roasted it too, pretty much the same way but for 12 minutes. Then I squeezed lemon juice onto it after it was cooked. We have been trying to eat healthier, and this with whole wheat pasta is pretty healthy.

Here is my list of other 'Go to Dinners'

All the recipes I have already shared in previous posts.
I love to cook, and share. heehee!

French Onion Soup

Salmon Cakes

Chicken Spaghetti

Slow-Cooker Ribs

Spicy Pork Au Ju

Lazy Lady Lasagna

Santa Fe Stew

You too can share your favorites...Go see Jessica.

Fun weekend with GREAT friends

Korey and Jenn came to town for a visit.
Korey's birthday is on the 20th, and Gary's on the 22nd. The guys wanted to celebrate together...so we did. We hadn't seen them in FOREVER, and it was awesome to hang out with them.
Friday night when Korey and Jenn arrived we put the kids to bed and just caught up. It was so fun hanging out and playing dominoes.
Jenn is a runner, and so Saturday morning she talked me into a 2.5 mile run. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I haven't really done much exercise since my surgery. I'm so glad I went. After a lazy afternoon. Susan (Gary's sister) came over to hangout with the kids.
Jarred and Shelby met up with us and we were off for some fun.

We went to Baja, a yummy hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. I love this picture, Gary and I look ok, but the funniest part is the WARNING on the wall. I didn't even realize the warning was in the pic until I downloaded it.
And I totally forgot my camera...so THANK YOU Jenn for giving me your camera for the night!

(Gary, Angie Jarred, Shelby, Jenn & Korey)

Here is the whole group.
We had so much fun. I am so thankful for my friends. I really needed a night out. After Baja we went to The Mule Barn to see Joey Green play some Texas country music. Gary and I danced...one of our favorite things to do. After dancing and my run...whew I was pooped out and sore on Sunday! My leggies were like jello all day.

Us three girls had fun people watching.
Oh the things we saw...and I took some pictures of some randomness. That is for another post, another day. Gosh, I need to get out more....people are just crazy.
The above picture is hysterical...these two girls were really into deep conversation!
Thank you Aunt Susie for hanging out with Layla and Hayden so we could have a fun night :) And thanks to our buddies for making the trip to see us!

One of my little helpers

Callaway is afraid he will miss a morsel of food left behind.

He drives us nuts begging for food.

The other night we had something yummy and he drove us crazy trying to get just a hint of a whiff. You know how a dog nose moves when they are sniffing. Well, it was wiggling in overtime.

When we were done eating he bolted to the table to slurp up any crumbs left behind.

It looks like Hayden left a piece of cookie stranded.

Hayden and Callaway must have a secret arrangement.

I'm okay with it as long as Cal cleans up for me :)

a week ago today...

we were at Chuck E Cheese hanging out.

We had so much fun.
We had to make the kids eat their pizza.
They just wanted to play and play and play.
They came home and took the longest naps ever...seriously.
Fun times!!

Crusty Hot Pads

I'm sorta embarrassed to be posting this.

pantry trail mix

i got the idea for this trail mix from a tweet.

i don't remember who it was from, but they basically said...

grab whatever is in your pantry and mix it up. so i did.

i toasted slivered almonds, cashews, and pecans in the oven for 10 minutes on 350 degrees.

i let them cool and ate several hand fulls.

~the kids came running, asking "mommy what's that yummy smell?"~

i threw the nuts in a bowl and mixed in dried cranberries and chocolate chips.

we ate it all in less than a week.

gary took some in his carry on bag when he flew to alabama. he is trying to loose weight {and doing a fine job, he is down 9lbs}. he was happy to have a healthy snack during his travels.

i made another batch.

yum.

We are balloon crazy lately

Thanks for all the tips on dry hands...you guys rock!
I can't wait to try a few new lotions and hand treatments.

Hayden is pretty much done with the numi. [pacifier]
I posted awhile back about my worries with him still wanting and needing it. I changed up a few things with him....he was only allowed to have it at bedtime/nap time. My worries really just worked themselves out...as many of you said they would. He didn't ask for it during our nightly routine Thursday night. He hasn't asked for it since, except last night. When I turned his music on, he pointed to the dresser where they used to be. I walked him over there and told him they were gone. He seemed ok with my answer.
Nap times are a bit shorter, and I don't know if it is because he doesn't have his numi, or if he is just going through a growth spurt. Night time isn't a problem at all. Anyway, I'm not willing to give it back to him, so hopefully he will nap better again soon...numi free :)

We have had fun during the cold months playing and doing crafts...BUT some days we run out of stuff to do. We had fun with the balloons a couple of days ago. I bought a bag of them, and we just blow up new ones if we pop 'em. Hayden is so silly...he tries to sit on the balloons. He freaked out when he popped one while sitting on it. Layla and I were totally cracking up.

We are trying to decide if we want to get a gaming system to play. Our friends brought over the Wii on NYE and we had fun with it. But, I just don't know if we would use something like that enough to justify the expense. I think it would be good to have during the rest of the cold winter months. Anyway, I'm thinking on that one. I don't want to turn into a bunch of gaming junkies. We are such 'outdoor' people...I'm afraid if I spend the money on games and the system it would be a waste.

So, this has to be the most random post of jumbled thoughts EVER!!

***

Have a great Monday afternoon.

I'm gonna go continue to lick my wounds after yesterday's of a football game.

The Cowboys didn't show up, but were there. I'm very sad.

{tear tear sniff sniff}
