Valentine's day 2012

We had a fun and full day celebrating Valentine's Day today.

When we woke up the kids found their Valentine's at the breakfast bar.

7:00 am isn't too early for chocolates is it?

Let the sugar high begin!!

Layla got a beautiful silver and pink necklace and matching earrings from her daddy.

So sweet!

While we were all eating chocolates I forgot to take the strawberry muffins out of the oven.
I burned them.  Dern it.  We have strawberry muffins every Valentine's morning.

Layla ate the insides out of a few muffins and we continued eating chocolates!

I'm guilty of taking a bite out of each candy and putting it back if I don't like it.

Good thing my family bought me a box all for my own!

Layla was finally all dressed and ready for school.  Today at school they had a Sock Hop and their class Valentine's party too.  It was a very busy afternoon!

Sweet girls!

Layla received Valentine's from her friends PLUS tons of candy.

Hayden didn't want Layla to out do him, so he decided to eat more candy when she got home from school.

He always picks out the orange filled candies.  Good for him, they are his favorite!

Once I rested after the school party I was ready to prepare our dessert for after dinner.

Yum!

We also dipped peanut butter filled Ritz crackers into the white chocolate coating too!

Oh boy!

Sprinkles make everything more festive right?!

Valentine's dessert just wouldn't be complete without heart shaped marshmallows.

I finished making desserts and popped them into the fridge to harden the white chocolate coating, and then I started dinner.

Dinner was homemade broccoli cheese soup....

smothering a baked potato.

It was so delicious.  It was really filling and quite wonderful.

Calorie counting isn't allowed on Valentine's day right?!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Hayden's Valentine party at preschool

This little man is still feeling nasty, but he isn't contagious so he went to school this morning just for his Valentine's Day party.  There are moments when he doesn't act sick at all, but then other times he feels down right blah.  We have been taking it easy and it has been nice to veg out.

See...does he look sick to you?

It melted my heart when we walked into his classroom and all his friends screamed, "Hayden, you are here, we missed you!!"  He has the sweetest friends.

Look at these adorable napkins.  There were matching plates too.  How cute?!?!

I love this picture of everyone praying.  I shouldn't have taken a picture of them praying, but it was so cute.  All their little eyes were squeezed super tight and they were saying the blessing.  It was priceless!

They had a delicious lunch of chicken nuggets, Cheetos, grapes and strawberries.  After lunch they decorated heart shaped sugar cookies with icing, sprinkles and little candies.

A few minutes after we decorated cookies Hayden said he was ready to go home and take a nap.  Bless his heart.  We passed out his Valentine's to his friends and we came on back home.  He laid down and rested and seemed to feel better after his rest time.  He missed the end of the party, but I am happy we were able to attend at least part of it.  I'm thankful he is feeling better and hopefully he will be good as new by school time on Wednesday.

sweet little sickie

Hayden has had the sniffles and a little cough for a few days.  We didn't think too much of it because he normally has allergies.  I just assumed it was because our crazy Texas weather changes so quickly.  It's hot and cold and the wind blows around all kinds of allergens every time it shifts.

Not this time.

The poor guy woke up this morning very upset and told us his throat hurt.  He got so upset trying to drink his juice that he ended up having a horrible coughing fit.  I have never seen him like that.  It broke my heart and I knew immediately I should call the doctor.  I knew he would only get worse before the weekend even started.

I called our pediatrician and we were able to get in within the hour.

While we waited Hayden looked at the fish.  The fish are always a favorite part of the waiting room.

Even through he felt bad he tried to put on a smiley face.

After he got checked he got a breathing treatment.  He was breathing rapidly and that is when I knew it must be RSV.  He hasn't had RSV since he was 5 months old.  Poor little dude.

He also tested positive for strep throat.
This is a first for him.  Luckily his ears are clear and look just fine.

After getting his medicine from the pharmacy and grabbing a few groceries we were back home and ready for another breathing treatment.

Sweet little man.  He really feels much better after he gets his medicine.  He hasn't fought his breathing treatments at all.  It really opens his airways, so I think he likes it.

I was a little worried about him this afternoon.  He has had plenty to drink, but nothing to eat all day long.  We asked him what he wanted for dinner and he requested a cheeseburger.  Gary was very happy to make him a burger.  Honestly I was worried he wouldn't be able to swallow, but he ate half a burger!

We also had sweet potato fries for dinner.  Gary and I were pleasantly surprised.  They were delicious!

For dessert the kids had Popsicles!

Then it was time for a warm bath and his fluffy warm bed.

Buzz Lightyear got one more breathing treatment for the day.

We are obviously laying low this weekend.  A big strong cold front is blowing in tonight so we will be staying home to heal and stay warm!  AND Mr. Weatherman mentioned snow Sunday night....we'll see!
