Painting for Valentine's night

Gary and I were gifted a fun evening of painting and beer.

As you can see we painted flamingos!

I had the most fun, but I feel like my flamingo looks like a swan.  I got a little carried away with the feather brush strokes!  We had such a fun time.  We don't typically go out on Valentine's Day  night, but this was a fun time for sure!  I'm glad we did it.

Valentine's Day 2015

The munchkins started off Valentine's day with a cream filled chocolate glazed donut, strawberries and strawberry milk.  They were very happy!

I got a waffle maker as a gift from my Valentine!  I'm so excited about it!

I made a batch of the fluffiest waffles I've ever eaten.  The kids are in love.  I used a package of strawberry muffin mix and just added a 1/2 cup of milk and then poured it onto the hot waffle iron.  It's so fun and easy.  I pinned tons of recipes on Pinterest.  I saw a pin about putting layers of tater tots on the waffle iron to produce hash browns.  Um hello!  Yes ma'am!  I'm so happy with my new gift!  I'll try to post all my creations!

I did baked apples for dessert tonight.  Yes, on the waffle maker and then I sprinkled them with a Truvia packet and cinnamon.  I tried to be creative with what I have at home, but hope to try brownies and even cinnamon rolls on my new toy.  My head cold came back after being gone for several days, so I didn't want to go to the grocery store feeling all sneezy.  I'm so mad about feeling yucky on V-day.  It's no fun, but I'm downing the meds.  I swear I need some of those Oils everyone has been talking about!!  ;)

Hope you had a Happy Heart Day!

It's that time of year again.  The kids picked out their Valentine cards for their classmates.
Our living room floor looks like a huge Valentine mess this afternoon!

donuts and chocolate and clean dogs!

Happy Valentine's Day!

The kids woke up to chocolate and donuts.
I attended their class parties at school and had lunch with my Valentine!

The puppies got much needed haircuts and baths.  They smell so good now!

We had friends over for crab legs and champagne for dinner.

It was a great day and I am thankful for a low key yet special Valentine's day!!

The things that happen when Gary travels

Do you remember back a few years ago when I wrote about how things go crazy when Gary is out of town?  Just because it is true and unbelievable read that post if you haven't.  Guess what?  Gary is out of town and the past day has been wild and crazy.  I may go into too much detail about a few things, so feel free to skip over the TMI parts.

Yesterday started out as a normal day.  Hayden and I headed to my Zumba class and I was feeling a little stuffy, but I assumed it was just allergies the wind blew in on Tuesday when it was 61 degrees and windy.  I knew Zumba would be a challenge with a stuffy nose, but I pushed through it.  Hayden on the other hand sneezed 500 times and was a snotty mess.  I decided to keep him home from school because he just looked so pitiful.

Hayden and I lounged around and used half a box of tissues.  I rested because Lily hasn't been sleeping through the night yet.  I have to take her outside during the night, so I'm a little drained from no sleep.  I have to say it is worth it though, because she is a sweet girl.  She is the best Valentine's day gift ever and the puppy/potty training phase will be over so fast.  I don't mind a few weeks of random sleep.

We picked Layla up from school in the snow.  I was shocked to see it was snowing when I looked out the window.  The snowflakes were the biggest I've ever seen.

Once we got home from school we all had a snack and then Layla said her stomach started to hurt. Turns out she has a stomach virus that hit right about bed time.  Bedtime can get hectic around here and with Gary gone and a puppy too ... I was already struggling to get clean sheets on Hayden's bed.  Then Layla got sick all over the living room, kitchen and downstairs bathroom.  I literally thought I was going to die.

I needed a towel around my face to clean it up.
Meanwhile Hayden was so stuffy he couldn't sleep or breathe.

I had him sitting in a chair near the window breathing in cool air.  Daisy was scarred to death hiding somewhere and Lily had to be crated due to all the commotion   It was like in the movies.  haha!  I was in an action packed sick house and even though I was stuffy I still struggled with cleaning barf.  IT was everywhere.  Bless Layla's heart.  I don't think she has thrown up in YEARS.  I don't think she knew what was going on.  I remember when I was a kid and I couldn't make it to the bathroom.  It's just so sad.

Layla's night was very rough and she is sad about missing school today on Valentine's day.  She still isn't 100% comfortable at her new school and for her to be excited to go made me happy.  After she got sick she was so upset to be missing school.  It's just so sad.

Hayden and Daisy have been resting today.  He isn't going to school again today because I am so tired.  I can't imagine getting Layla into the car to drop him off at school.  AND as bad as this stomach virus is, I don't want him eating a bunch of junk if he gets sick today.  I hope Hayden and I are spared, but I feel like I may be feverish.  Layla has fever, and I was with her all night last night.  I hope I don't get sick, but the rumor is going around that this bug is brutal.

Gary is heading home tomorrow and I hope he doesn't get sick.  Valentine's day is not at all what I expected and I am thankful we didn't have big plans today.  We would have missed them for sure.  I still can't believe all this happened once again while Gary is gone.  Hey, at least we don't have a bee hive the size of my head in the backyard! ;)  Things can always be worse right?!

Valentine's day 2012

We had a fun and full day celebrating Valentine's Day today.

When we woke up the kids found their Valentine's at the breakfast bar.

7:00 am isn't too early for chocolates is it?

Let the sugar high begin!!

Layla got a beautiful silver and pink necklace and matching earrings from her daddy.

So sweet!

While we were all eating chocolates I forgot to take the strawberry muffins out of the oven.
I burned them.  Dern it.  We have strawberry muffins every Valentine's morning.

Layla ate the insides out of a few muffins and we continued eating chocolates!

I'm guilty of taking a bite out of each candy and putting it back if I don't like it.

Good thing my family bought me a box all for my own!

Layla was finally all dressed and ready for school.  Today at school they had a Sock Hop and their class Valentine's party too.  It was a very busy afternoon!

Sweet girls!

Layla received Valentine's from her friends PLUS tons of candy.

Hayden didn't want Layla to out do him, so he decided to eat more candy when she got home from school.

He always picks out the orange filled candies.  Good for him, they are his favorite!

Once I rested after the school party I was ready to prepare our dessert for after dinner.

Yum!

We also dipped peanut butter filled Ritz crackers into the white chocolate coating too!

Oh boy!

Sprinkles make everything more festive right?!

Valentine's dessert just wouldn't be complete without heart shaped marshmallows.

I finished making desserts and popped them into the fridge to harden the white chocolate coating, and then I started dinner.

Dinner was homemade broccoli cheese soup....

smothering a baked potato.

It was so delicious.  It was really filling and quite wonderful.

Calorie counting isn't allowed on Valentine's day right?!

Happy Valentine's Day!
