navy blue star selfies

The Dallas Cowboys season opener last night was a nail biter.

We're Texas folks and will always love our Dallas Cowboys.  Layla and Hayden were awake for kick off and then had to hit the hay for school this morning.

Anyone else watch the last of the game with toothpicks holding their eyes open?  I was so sleepy, but I couldn't look away.  I have some friends who are New York Giants fans (what in the world are they thinking?) and I just couldn't sleep not knowing the outcome of the game!

We kicked some booty THANK GOODNESS!

a girl brunch and elf painting

Layla's new friend Aislin and her mom invited us to a girls day out!

We had brunch at a fun breakfast restaurant downtown and the girls had a gift exchange.  I was happy to meet a few more moms and talk about the school and our neighborhoods.

After brunch we went to a fun painting studio and the girls got a step by step tutorial on how to paint an elf.  It was so fun and right up Layla's alley.  She's a lover of arts and crafts, so painting was a perfect artsy activity for her.

She had to dry the paint so she could add to the elf!  I loved this place so much and I want to go paint something someday soon!

The finished product.  She looks so proud!!!  She did an amazing job.

I love seeing all the painters in the studio and how their elves turned out.  Each and every elf was different and showed the kiddos personalities.  Oh what fun!!!!

The sweetest editor

I knew the time was coming, but I had no idea it would be so soon....

This chic said to me, "Mom you don't make sense when you write."

What?? You mean I'm not an award winning author?  I have grammatical errors?   I've never claimed to be the best writer, and if you know me I pretty much write like I speak.  I'm glad I'm 'me' when I write and I know I'm true to our family in this here scrapbook I keep.

The past few days Layla has been reading the blog.  She's been reading old posts from years ago.  She giggles and asks questions about what happened and when.   I'm so happy she's having fun reading it and it counts as 'reading' time for school!

I'm so proud.  It's the one thing I'm happy to keep up with and I always seem to make time to squeeze in a post or two even when life is crazy.

Honesty she didn't point out specific errors, she asked me about a few sarcastic sentences.  I'm good with it.  I hope she continues to read it and I'm happy to continue to post about our life events.

She's now my official proof reader!!

Monday Funday

Gary and Hayden played golf today and had an absolute blast.

I love his little red golf glove.

Honestly I was a little worried about Hayden, but he did great for an almost 5 year old.  Gary said they went into the clubhouse after 9 holes and Hayden said, "What daddy are we done already?"   He wasn't ready to be done, so they played 9 more holes and had a fun time!

I sure do love my guys!

Layla and I spent the hole day together.  She went with me to my Zumba class and then we had lunch together.  We went to a nail salon to get pedicures, but we got annoyed and left.  We ended up going to Big-K and getting our own foot spa thingy.  We came home and gave each other pedicures.  Layla got to pick out some "Lee press-On nails" except they are modern day fake nails.  You know you remember Lee Press-On nails...haha!

She did a fine job giving me a pedicure and we had a fun time playing around and just doing girly stuff.  When the guys got home we all played in the swimming pool and double slip n slide.  The water was so freezing cold though.  I'm adjusting to the cool summer, but it is quite different than all the other June months I have experienced in the past.  We are usually hot hot hot buy now.  I'm loving the weather, but I do hope the water warms up so the kiddos can splash and play without chattering teeth!

I hope your Monday was great!

7th birthday recap

Gary and I have planned the kids birthday parties up until this year.  We have always had a big bash the week between their actual birthdays.  It has been easy to celebrate both kids on the same day.  This year Layla didn't want a dual birthday, and I can't blame her!  We asked her what kind of birthday party she wanted and she said she really didn't want a party this year.  What?  She had a better plan!

She wanted to take a friend to Build a Bear for her birthday.  I think it sounded like a great plan and it's the best party favor a birthday party guest could ask for.

This is how her 7th birthday played out....

Of course she had her traditional birthday cupcake for breakfast.
She requested funfetti cupcakes with icing and sprinkles for her birthday cake.

7 candles.  gahhhh!  How is she 7 already?

Hayden was more than happy to help his Sissy eat cupcakes for breakfast.
[i promise he has shirts. it seems like lately i'm always posting shirtless pics of him. he likes to be shirt free in the summer.]

We opened gifts.

She loved her new {girly} Lego set.

The kids settled down for a Super Mario Kart marathon until it was time for Build a Bear.

Layla and I are all ready and about to head to Grapevine Mills Mall.  I am loving Layla's tiara.  She has worn that thing at least 4 years in a row on her birthday.  She loves it!

Sweet little ladies picking out their pups!

Layla shopped online in advance and knew EXACTLY what animal she wanted when she walked into Build a Bear.

Layla is giving Miss Sassy her first bath!

How cute are they??

I love the thought of a new animal being born and stuffed on Layla's 7th birthday.  These girls will remember their pets and this birthday for years to come.  I am thankful for all of Layla's sweet friends.  I know she wanted to invite them all to Build a Bear, but she understands how expensive that could have gotten.  She makes me proud every day and I am so thankful she is growing up into a sweet and thoughtful little girl.

After a pizza dinner, popcorn, M&M's and a movie we all fell into bed fast asleep and happy we had such a fun day celebrating Layla Kate!

Miscellany Monday

We had a fun Thanksgiving break and now the kids are back in school for 3 weeks and then they are out for the Christmas break!  I'm already so excited about the holiday break.  The kids are at fun ages!!  The excitement in their eyes is so fun to see!

This time of the year I really crave coffee creamer.  I usually just drink my coffee with one Splenda packet, but when the holidays roll around I really feel the need for creamer!  I used this this morning and it is so delicious!

I made banana bread last night for the kids to eat for breakfast this morning!  It turned out so delicious!  We were all a bit burned out from all the 'pumpkin' themed foods we have been eating.  This banana bread hit the spot.  It turned out so pretty!

Look who got a new Christmas collar!!  It is perfect for our wild pup!  Camo Christmas!

I am still searching for collars/sweaters for the girl pups in our lives.  I have bought several for Daisy Mae, but they just don't look right.  When we got her she wore a small sweater/shirt.  Now that size seems to be too small for her.  I think we are over feeding her, so we are putting her on a diet.  We aren't used to having a small dog, so we need to scale back her diet so she can keep her girlish figure!

We took a few pictures by the Christmas tree yesterday as a family.  The pictures are so stinkin' funny!  Gary and I were laughing so hard taking them.  They are quite comical.  That is a whole post for another day.

Seriously?  Can you say tonsils?  They are so WILD!!

This my friends is my recipe binder.  This time of year makes me want to cook up a storm.  I'm looking forward to getting my chores done this morning so I can sit down with a warm cup of coffee {with creamer} and find some fun, warm and delicious things to cook in the next few weeks!

And because I haven't in awhile I am linking up with the lovely Carissa for a little Miscellany on this Monday!

Miscellany Monday @ lowercase letters

Happy Monday!

My Mini Me

I was looking through my pictures the other day and came across this picture of Layla & I.
I just love this little girl. She makes me so happy!
I can't believe that she will be going to kindergarten in the fall.
