Meet the teacher night

Tonight we got to meet Layla's teachers.  She will have two teachers this year in 2nd grade.

2nd grade...eeeeiiikkkk!

The school mascot is a Longhorn.
How fitting ... there was a longhorn right outside the front door of the school tonight!

I'm excited for Layla!
She has had a really great summer and now she is ready to get back to school to see all her friends!

Can you believe she let me take these fun pictures of her?  She usually runs from my camera!

candy, clothes and shots

Today our little family went to Grapevine Mills to do some back to school clothes shopping.  We had fun going from store to store looking at all the latest styles.  The kids begged us to stop at the candy store.  Then they proudly reminded Gary and I about earlier this morning when they let us sleep-in a bit.  They decided they deserved a prize for that.

Sooooo $12.00 later they got 2 bags of candy.

Look at this little diva.  She makes me smile.  Unfortunately, she is starting the 'not listening' stage.   Gary and I sound like a broken record lately.  We have to ask her a million times to do one single task.  I'm gonna pull my hair out.  For real.  I'm not known for being very patient.

Look at this dress....If that doesn't scream LKS I don't know what does.

We went to 3 different stores yesterday and couldn't find ANYTHING she liked or wanted to wear to school this year.  We walked into Old Navy today and she got a whole wardrobe of adorable clothes.  I am so excited and thrilled that they all fit her style perfectly!  She is set for the 1st part of the year at least.

Hayden had a big day today too.  He had his 4 year check-up.  Our little man is perfectly healthy.  He is developmentally right on track.  He had and passed his hearing test and an eye test.  He weighs 38 pounds and is 3.5 feet tall.  He knew he was getting vaccinations today.  He was really worried about them.  Poor guy was mad mad mad.  He hated those shots, but luckily he's done with shots for a long time.

This is before....he's happy as a clam.

Afterwards, NOT SO MUCH.  He was mad as a hornet.

I cried because he cried so hard.  Layla laughed at him.  Sheesh.  I couldn't believe it when I looked over and she was laughing.  Gosh.  Gotta love sibling love.

At bath time when I pulled his band-aids off he was worried it was going to hurt.  It didn't hurt, but I could tell his little bird legs were sore.  I gave him a dose of Advil and then Tylenol right before bed.  I know I'm exaggerating, but it looked like the nurse stabbed those needles into his thighs.  Ugh!  I was so thankful when the doctor reminded us we don't need anymore shots until the kids are 11 years old.

Last night I got a call from Hayden's preschool about meet the teacher day.  Today I got a call from Layla's school about who her teachers will be!  Such exciting times around here y'all!  I can't believe I have a 2nd grader and a Pre-K student.
I love these days with my kids and I love seeing their little personalities grow and develop.  I love being their mom and helping them become independent little beings.  Sometimes I think and know they just want me to do everything for them, but then I remember I'm their parent and it's my job to teach them how to do stuff.  Even though it's easier for me sometimes to do it myself, I stop and remind myself:

My job as a parent is to give them "Roots & Wings."
My babes are growing up!!

Monday's mumbles

I have been avoiding my blog lately.  I think I have posted less this month than ever in the history of my blog.  We have been super busy, so that is half the problem. A good problem thought!  I have so much to say to it, but I'm not ready to say it yet.  Yes, I have been posting our day to day events.  I have been posting all about our fun summer.  I need to vent a little more and get my feelings out there.  Our little family has tons of stuff going on right now, but I'm just not sure where to start explaining it all.  I'm a really transparent person, but right now I am having a hard time figuring out what to say.  I know the right words will come, but for now I will wait to say them.  We have big changes coming up!

Today Layla got her hair trimmed for back-to-school.  She has finally grown out her 'bob' from a year or so ago.  Her hair is basically all one length now.  She looked so big sitting in that chair!

After her haircut we went to Target and hung out for a couple of hours.  She tried on tons of clothes, but we didn't buy anything.  She is in between sizes.  It's gonna take a little more time and research to find her the back to school wardrobe she wants.  It sure is fun shopping.  And stressful too.  She's kinda like her Momma.  I have a hard time making decisions.  I'm going to need to try to help her realize what she wants and go for it.  I am not crazy about my "wishy washy" trait!

I still need to post about our super fun camping weekend at Lake Whitney.   I'll catch up this week and post some fun pictures of that.  We went camping and met up with another family from our neighborhood.  We had tons of fun!

Tomorrow is Hayden's 4 year check-up.  He is worried he's gonna have to get shots.  Poor little guy.  He said, "Are those needle things sharp?"  I hate getting those silly vaccines, but they are necessary!

Look at this picture I found of the kids on Facebook.  They were so little.   Hayden's head was so big.  It makes me smile!  Time sure does fly when you're having fun!

Summer's end is nearing.

I am sad to see summer coming to an end, because we've had a really great time.

We are camping and playing in the water. Next week we are back to school shopping and getting ready for fall. This is our last summer Hoorah for 2012!

The kids are at fun ages because they are both finally loving the water. Pool water, lake water, any kind of water! I love watching them enjoy summer. It makes my momma heart happy.

a whole lotta jibber jabber

The end of summer is coming up fast.  I can't believe school will be starting in just a two weeks.

I am ready for fall temperatures, but who knows if we will get fall here in Texas.  This is the time of year when I get so mad about the Texas heat because the grass in our yard is so dry and dead.  It makes me so sad.  We use our water sprinklers, but the grass is still khaki and dry.

I was working on entering a Thirty-One order on Saturday and Layla was very curious.  She got so excited to pick out her school bag for the year.  She decided on a purple bag and a pink lunch box.  She said, "Mom, it's so cool that I don't have to go out and buy a school bag.  You own tons of bags and I get to create my own!"  I feel that way too.  I seriously could have one of everything Thirty-One sells. I love what I do!

Gary and I drink coffee together in the mornings before work.  I love my morning coffee.  Sometimes when I am at the store I try to buy coffee that is cheaper, but seriously there is no comparison   Expensive coffee is better.  Life is too short for bad coffee.  If only I could lose my Splenda habit.  I'm trying to stop using artificial sweeteners, but it is hard.  Coffee just needs Splenda!

Gary was out of town all last week.  It was a hectic week for me.  I tried to keep the kids busy, but that just made me tired.  By the end of the week I was so ready for a break.  These children are so cute and sweet, but they never stop talking.  They must take after their father. heehee!

We watched the season finale of Dallas on Saturday night.  I'm so sad it ended.  I love that show!!  I'm so excited to see the new season and I hope it's as good as the first season.   I'm ready for my fall shows to come back on TV.

Hayden and Layla fight over TV.  He usually just gives in and watches what she wants.  Poor little dude watches more Jessie and Austin & Ally than any other 4 year old.   My favorite show right now on Disney is Good Luck Charlie.  I think it is great.  I love when they play back to back non-stop episodes.

I have been lazy with my camera lately.  I am posting this entry with zero pics.  GASP!!
I will get back into snapping shots.  The end of the summer brain fry is in effect.  I've been a tad bit grouchy.  Good thing for me the grouchies don't last too long.

And now I'm off to have my morning coffee.
