Tired, sore and full, but happy!

Is it just me, or do all moms and dads fall onto the couch in the evenings with exhaustion? I'm so tired at the end of the day. I thought once the kids got older and could do more for themselves I would have more energy. Um no.

I thought once both kids were in school all day long I'd have more time to do many things. I'M BUSIER THAN EVER. It's a good thing, to be busy and have a full life. But dang I'd love to have the brain power in the evening to write some interesting blog posts. I know posting about our day to day activities doesn't always make the most interesting read.

I'm recording life though so it is perfect for now.

Also, I'm so sore. I workout hard three days a week and sometimes run on a ransom whim if I don't workout. However, I ran chasing after the kids at the Fun Run Saturday night and my shins are still killing me. It is Wednesday. They are so sore. What in the world? It's seriously the craziest thing.

Another crazy thing.....

We ate out at a restaurant twice yesterday. Once for lunch just Gary and I, and once for dinner. Layla has dance class on Tuesday night and Gary and I like to take Hayden to dinner all by himself. He enjoys the alone time with us and Layla loves getting TO-GO food from a restaurant after dance class. The point....

I feel yuck this morning. As in puffy eyes and swollen hands. I had chips and salsa, a cheese enchilada and a little bit of beans and rice for lunch. For dinner Gary and I had appetizers, 3 wings and shrimp and we split a turkey wrap. Blah...I just feel yucky eating that much junk that I didn't prepare. My body lately likes meat, veggies and beans. I'm learning to let go of the pasta, bread and potatoes because I just feel better.

I feel like this post is all about age, who's with me here?? How does it take us 30 something years to realize our bodies talk to us? Why do I finally enjoy working out and eating right?

My body is screaming: yuck to that food, don't run on the street like that without stretching and GO TO BED YOU'RE TIRED.

Maybe it finally took this long for me to listen! My body has been screaming at me for years. I'm just finally smart enough to listen. Honestly this age thing isn't too bad and apparently with age comes randomness.

How's this for a super random word-full Wednesday morning blog post?

lack of sleep and food

For some reason I had a horrible night of sleep last night.  I woke up at 3:45 am and couldn't go back to sleep.  I tossed and turned and drove myself crazy.  I just knew I'd fall asleep within an hour.  I read some online on my iPhone.  I checked twitter.  I had all sorts of irrational random thoughts.  I worried about our house in Texas.  I worried about our oven here not working.  I was a sleepy drowsy mess, but couldn't fall back to sleep.  Finally at 6:00 am Gary asked me what in the world was going on.  I told him I had been awake too long and I was losing my mind and then I promptly fell sound asleep until 8:00 am.

I am back on the grapefruit bandwagon.  I love them and try to eat one a day.  Why are called grapefruit?  Grapes are tiny.  Grapefruit is huge.  I will never understand why it's called a grapefruit.  Maybe I'll google grapefruit.   These are the things a sleep deprived person think about when they are sleepy.  Can you even imagine how I acted when I had newborn babes?  I am the kind of person who must have sleep.  I need my sleep to function properly.  When I had the kids I was a walking zombie making bad decisions for months.  haha!

I am on a soup kick.  Poor Gary.  One night this week we had chicken tortilla soup.  Last night I made a new recipe.  It is stuffed bell pepper soup.  I also bought ingredients for potato and ham soup and beef stew.  I think it is a way to keep me warm.

The stuffed bell pepper soup was really good.  I attached a link to the recipe I used. (scroll down past the oriental salad.) I changed the recipe a bit.  I used extra brown rice.  It says to use 2/3 cup and I used a whole cup.  I like rice y'all.  Also I used rotel and skipped the tomato paste; I didn't have any.  I doubled the red pepper flakes because the kids weren't eating this soup with us.  I let it simmer for close to 2 hours.  It was better than the stuffed peppers I make.  Next time I make it we will have croissants with it.  It was amazing!

This little man is a handful lately.  He is really changing into a little man.  He thinks it is funny to talk about inappropriate things like poop.  Man it drives me crazy.  I had to get onto him twice today for talking potty talk.  He has had a play date two days in a row with his girlfriend, our neighbor.  The get along so great and reference each other as boyfriend/girlfriend.  Layla thinks boys are gross, so Hayden is fast. I can't believe he has a girlfriend already. haha!

Tomorrow is a big day at school for him.  If he can zip his coat and write his name he gets to join the Zipper Club.  I love his preschool.  The ladies have been teaching kids for YEARS.  They are the sweetest ladies and I am thankful we found his school.  I just know he will be ready for kindergarten this coming fall.  I can't believe he is growing so fast, but each phase of life for us just gets better and better!

Since I am on a soup kick, leave me soup recipes if you have them!

Night night!

Friday Night Random Thoughts

I feel like this week has been all about soccer.  We had soccer practice on Monday, a soccer game on Thursday night and tomorrow we have another game and pictures.  Tonight we had a family soccer practice in our backyard.  Soccer soccer soccer.  I love it, but it is consuming us.

Layla is doing great playing soccer considering this is her first year.  She has REALLY changed since the girls' first game a few weeks ago.  I think aggressiveness will come for her.  Right now she is so kind hearted and doesn't "get" fighting for the ball.  I love watching the games and  I get so into them.  I do make myself sit in a chair and take pictures because if I didn't I'd be up running and cheering.  haha!
I don't want to embarrass Layla or myself.

Guess what happened at our house tonight???  IT RAINED!  We sat outside in the rain.  IT was amazing.  Then it started to rain harder and we headed inside, but OH!  I could just sing from the roof top praises to God for the rain!  It rained for almost an hour.

Friday nights in our house are so hard.  I guess the week finally catches up to all of us.  The hustle and bustle of the week makes my kids grouchy and irritable on Friday nights.   This afternoon and into the evening it was one melt down after another.  We usually keep Friday nights low key.

How are Friday nights in your house?

Mr. Serious.  What is it about guys...they never smile in pictures?

Hayden is a mess.  For the longest time we weren't sure if he would ever talk, and now he never shuts up.  Tonight he was describing a friend of his to us.

He said, "he had on a blue shirt and a fat head."

I was shocked. Fat is not a word we use in our house.  I'm not sure where he heard it.  He asks what words mean all the time.  "Mommy, is stupid a bad word."  "Is seriously a bad word?"  It is never quiet here.  I think some of the words he uses he hears in movies.  But GET THIS...

Layla loves Junie B Jones books.  We read them every single night.  They are so cute, and I really enjoy them, but I usually wait until Hayden is in bed because Junie B talks trash.

The character, Junie B. says stupid and dumb so often in her books.  This is interesting to me because they are Kindergarten and First Grade books.  Layla knows the difference in good words and bad words.  She knows what she should and shouldn't say.  We don't allow her to say butt, stupid, dumb and other not so 'bad' words.  She knows this, but Hayden doesn't.  He repeats everything.  One of our house rules is...
If you don't understand a word ask what it means.  AND don't use the word if you don't 'get it'. period.

Hayden is still learning this rule, but it is so hard.

What words are off limits in your house?

This concludes my random thoughts for the night!  Have a great weekend!

Monday night bullet points

  • Last night, Gary came home from his week long business trip sick.  Not just sick, but 104 temperature sick.as.a.dog.  I was so worried about him, so I loaded him up in the car  and took him to the ER.  Once there they listened to his lungs and realised they were full of fluid.  Poor guy.  They did ex-rays and pumped him full of fluids.  While gone on his trip he got the flu.  I don't think either one of us has ever had the flu.  He was in bad shape.  Thankfully he is doing much better tonight.  He is still weak, but much better.  I won't let the kids near him.  He was allowed to eat his soup at the dinner table with the three of us, but I won't let him touch anything in the kitchen or rest of the house.
  • I am doing the Cinch diet.  It is a 5 day fast forward plan to jump start healthy eating.  You can possible lose 8 pounds in 5 days.  I bought all the groceries (spinach, almonds, raspberries, yogurt and eggs) for it and was ready to start on Monday...today.  Bad time to start a new eating program when your husband is sick. BUT I started and it was ok.  I wanted to emotional eat all day long, but I didn't.  I will post more about the eating plan this week.  I am just really tired tonight.
  • But not to tired to watch the Bachelor. Home town dates tonight!  Whoo hoo!
  • My kids realized that when they toot in the tub it makes bubbles.  Oh my goodness...the giggles that discovery produced.  I was worried they were going to make themselves do something other than toot.  They were trying so hard to toot.
  • And that is an ender...can't really post much more..nothing can top the inappropriate toot/potty talk.  ha!
Peace out y'all!
