This Saturday is for clovers and food trucks

We had a fun time at the Food Truck Showdown here in downtown Waco.

We got dressed up in our green and hit the streets before the rain and storms blew in!

My favorite thing was the cheesecake egg roll.  It was amazing!!!!!

Of course we toasted with green beers and March Madness.

The storms rolled in and we stayed inside and listened to the rain pound the roof and windows.  We turned on our Amazon Echo and set it to 80's music and guessed at who sang each song.  It was a blast and we laughed and danced and enjoyed our kiddos and friends!

Lula Jane's lunch date

Ricotta grits with roasted corn, wilted greens and apple wood smoked bacon....yum!  And of course I got pie.  It was heavenly.  I love pie!

If you have been reading my blog for long you know I love trying new restaurants.  Gary and I moved away from Waco in 2001 and there are so many more restaurants here now than then.  Waco has blown up into a fun little big town!  I'm so exited to be back HOME!

Lula Jane's is a bakery across the Washington street bridge.  It is a quaint little spot and the food was amazing and very fresh.

They grow much of their own produce and from the looks of the kitchen all of their baked goods are made from scratch.  I was so intrigued by their pies and cakes and I hope they have a taste test one day.  I'm all over that!  Everything looked a.maz.ing.

Each day the chef makes the lunch entree, so I jumped on the website to look at the menu for the day.  I have to say I was disappointed that I missed taco day, but then when I took the first bite of  the wilted greens, bacon and grits I was in love.  I'm a Mexican food lover and will always crave tacos, but my lunch was superb!

I went on a lunch date with my Aunt and she works downtown, so it was quick and convenient to her office.  I will have to take Gary because I know he will be a fan too.  Layla will drool over all the baked goods.  I can't wait to go back soon!

Sunday was a funday indeed

We had a fun fall Sunday.  We had a fire to end the day and Hayden decided to protect his head with his motorcycle helmet.  His feet, legs and arms are all bare, but the face is all good. LOL!

Silly silly boy!

We went to the park and the kids took a pretty deflated soccer ball to kick around.  They ended up playing volley ball and Layla screamed out, "pass interference!!"  Oh me oh my, the children are funny today huh?!?

We ran off some much needed energy!

I'm going backwards in picture order.  We had cheeseburgers for lunch.  We took a drive and were hoping to find a hidden gem of a burger spot on the back roads of Georgia, but we struck out.  We ended up downtown for a late lunch/early dinner.  We tried a cheeseburger place we have been curious about since we moved here.

Let me start by saying the food was great.  The fries were crispy and the burger was very delicious.

I was annoyed by the cleanliness of the restaurant though.  The bathroom was a wreck and we had to ask for toilet paper and the teenager we asked was just rude.  I told her bathroom didn't have toilet paper and she said, "ok!"  She kept on doing whatever she was doing.  She wasn't concerned about TP at all.  When we went to order our food., the boy behind the counter was not helpful at all and it was our first time to eat there.  He wasn't in the mood to answer questions about the menu and in his defence it is a cheeseburger, how do you mess that up?  BUT come on, have some personality.  Anyway, the tables were all dirty and Gary and I were just plain ole disappointed.  We had higher expectations ya know. We just need to open a restaurant!  We'd love it!

After we ate our burgers on the patio we headed to the cupcake shop a few shops down the street.  They were out of cupcakes.  LOL!  We pretty much struck out downtown today, but it's all good.  We still had a fun time.

After sleeping in we started off our day with coffee by our first fire.  We decided to light a fire to warm up because we had a frost warning.  IT was chilly indeed and we loved it.  As you can see below, Daisy loved it too.  She's such a little ham-bone, posing like a movie start princess puppy!

I'm thankful for a fun Sunday with all my people and furry animals.  I don't take a second of life for granted.  I am thankful and I know I am truly blessed!

date night to celebrate 15

Gary and I celebrated our anniversary last night with a fun night out!

We went to 4 or 5 different places around town.  We ate appetizers and had beverages and great conversation.  It's been 15 years since we said 'I DO' on the beach at sunrise.

Time flies when you're having fun!  I wouldn't trade my friendship with my husband for anything!

2nd week of school celebration

The kiddos survived their second full week of school, so we decided to treat them to a dinner out!  We jumped in the Jeep and off we went.  You know crazy momma had to take a selfie!

These pictures are courtesy of the iphone self timer app!

Hayden and his faces.  sigh.  Every single picture we take he is making some kind of goofy face.

We ate a new to us restaurant called Henry's in downton Acworth.  We ordered calamari and hush puppies as appetizers.  Their hush puppies are to die for and I could have eatten the entire basket.  I ordered blackened catfish on a bed of jambalaya.  Hayden settled for chicken strips, but he did tell the server they were the best he'd ever had.  Layla had penne pasta with Alfredo sauce.  Gary had some amazing looking dish with cream sauce filled with chicken.  The atmosphere was amazing and it was definitely kid friendly, as it was so loud in there.   We had a fun night out and left for home happy and full!

Labor Day Parade

Our town kicked of the Labor Day weekend with a fun parade yesterday.

It was a nice day, but in the sun we were actually hot!

I haven't been hot much since moving from Texas to Ohio, so it wasn't too bad for me.

The kids weren't happy by the end of the parade.  It was a fun morning and we got tons of candy, but we were ready to have a big tall glass of water when we got home!   Happy Labor Day weekend!!

downtown on Sunday

We decided to head downtown this morning for the River Roar.  We were sad that the boat races were cancelled due to high winds.  I just know the kids would have loved it.

The kiddos were pretty concerned with this fire down the river.  It smelt awful and pieces of ash were flying all around.  The announcer of the races said it was a recycling plant down the river.  It's so sad.  I hope everyone was ok.

There was also a car show on Front Street.  We loved looking at some of the old cars.  Our family favorite was the 1972 model suburban.

When we got home the bottom fell out and it poured rain.  Thankfully our covered patio lets us enjoy the rain while grilling and relaxing.

The ferns got water and we sampled the beef jerky Gary made.  It was his first time and it turned out amazing.  He grilled us chicken and sausage with veggies too.

Lily Jack enjoyed laying on her bed on the porch.  She was nice and peaceful until Daisy jumped on her head and woke her up.  Those two pups fight and wrestle as much as the kiddos do!

It was a fun Sunday for us, even if the boat races were cancelled.
