Happy 14th Birthday Layla

Layla celebrated her birthday at church camp on the 11th, and now we are celebrating on the beach.

When she got home from camp and we got a Starbucks frap and
did all her laundry so we could pack for the beach.

Awww.  She was so tiny!  We were having our morning cupcake way back then.
She didn't get to do that this year because she was at camp.

We made a fun girl day of dropping her off at camp.

Happy Happy birthday and birthday week to you Sissy!!

Layla's 8th grade cheer team competed in the NCA competition this weekend.

It was a long and busy weekend of cheering and giggles.  I stayed in a room at the Omni hotel with LK and two other cheerleaders.  They went to be late and got up super early.

Their routine was performed perfectly two days in a row.  They are so fun to watch!

We got to Dallas Friday afternoon.  They practiced Friday afternoon and performed Saturday morning and Sunday morning.  The rest of the time was waiting and wondering and lots of bonding.

I'm thankful for a fun group of moms to hang out with!

Our girls got 12th place in our division.  The competition was tough!  They amaze me and I can't wait to see these girls head into high school cheer.  I know they will continue to grow as a team in the years to come!!

Cheer camp is in full swing

Cheer camp started Monday and ended today.  It was so fun to see Layla come home each night more excited than the day before.  I feel confident she found her 'thing.'  She loves to tumble and she enjoys being loud and smiling.  She's doing what she loves!!

My heart literally broke when she tried out for All American cheerleader, but didn't make it.  I feel like she had a questionable attitude about it from the beginning, but we pushed her to do her best.  Her 4 closest buddies on the cheer team all made it, but she didn't.  I hate she didn't make it, but I also know as parents we have to help our kids deal with dissapointment.  During camp they had a tryout the last day.  She felt like she bombed the tryout.  As her parents we were there to comfort her, but dang it it was so hard to see her sad.

I think just to get nominated was a huge thing!  I'm super proud of my 8th grade cheerleader! I think her first cheer camp was a huge success.  She's sore and tired, but happy!!

Layla is a teenager

We were at the Gaylord when Layla woke up on her birthday, so we did things alittle different this year!  She got a huge cookie and her favorite Vanilla Bean Frappuccino from Starbucks.  I think she was just as happy as every other birthday morning!

I still can't believe she is offically a teenager!

We got her the fun 13 balloons in gold.  I knew she'd have a fun time taking tons of pictures with them.

UNTIL the number 3 came off the string and floated AWAY!!  So sad y'all!

You can barely see it floating up high in the sky.

And then she was 1! heeheehee!

We went back to our neighborhood H_E_B and they gave her another free of charge.  How sweet are they?  That's wonderful customer service.  So the photo shoots continue.....

She tried so hard to get one with both puppies, but they are just too crazy!

Happy birthday to you Layla!  We love you!

a middle school play

Layla's theater class performed this morning.
It was a great performance with a wonderful message.

Layla did great playing the sad girl.

Here is Layla bowing at the end with her "parents."

Layla played the role of a teenage student. ha! In the play, she was in the locker room and one of her best friends took a picture of her in her undies.  The friend then posted it to the Internet.  Tori, Layla's character, was very upset and sad.  Her parents, teachers and principal helped her through this awful time.  Her friend didn't mean harm, but she suffered the consequences of her actions.

It was a cute production and well acted out by the whole class!  I enjoyed it!

She's made the team!!

We are beyond proud of Layla!  She has been working so hard and that hard work payed off!!

She was in twice a week gymnastics for months to learn to tumble.  Tumbling is a huge part of cheer!  It's isn't like the old days when I was a cheerleader.  She set her mind to it though and rocked the tryouts.

Every day after school this week they had practice.  When she got home she worked and worked until her feet hurt.  I felt so proud to see her working so hard, but also felt sorry for her when her legs just wouldn't move another second.

She made the MMS cheer team and we are thrilled for her.  She is proud of herself too!

Go go G-O!

Layla is loving her Monday nights as of late. She’s in the 7th grade pep squad.

It’s so fun to watch her do her thang.
She’s spunky and loud and cheering is a perfect fit for her personality.

12 on the 11th

Layla's birthday cake of the year was cookie cake this year.  She woke up 12 years old and decided to have cookie cake for breakfast.  We have to stick to our traditions!!

Birthday selfie!!

Layla had 3 friends over for a birthday sleepover.  They painted shirts, jumped on the trampoline and giggled a TON!

She was thrilled to have buddies come to our new house.  We are getting settled in, but that didn't stop her from having a fun sleepover party!

We are thankful for our 12 year old!
Happy Happy Day!

The three of us spent our morning at the dentist office.

We are all clean and cavity free!
