7 1/2 and baseball tryouts

Happy 7 1/2 years to this guy!

Layla has made it her mission to celebrate our 1/2 birthdays and today is his!!

Guess what he did yesterday?

He had is first ever baseball assessment!  He chose baseball over soccer this year.  I'm excited to see how he likes it!

I'm so proud of him for being brave and trying a new sport.  He was excited to play with his buddies, but since he is the youngest in his grade he will play on the 7U team instead of 8U with his classmates.

You know what?  He doesn't even care.

I'm so proud of him. He wants to play anyway with friends or not.  He knows he can make more friends!  I don't feel so bad about moving the kids all around the country when they show such great attitudes about weird situations.  To me trying a new sport is fun, but even better with friends.  Even though the found out he doesn't get to be on that team, he chose to be positive!  I'm just so pumped for him and I can't wait to see him perfect his baseball skills this season!

Happy half birthday Hayden!

Snowy Saturday

The kids just came inside after playing in the snow!  It snowed the whole time they were outside playing.  They loved it! Lily had fun running and playing with them.  Daisy and I stayed inside the warm house.  The wind was blowing so hard and it made the kids colder faster!!

Happy Snow Day!

42!

Gary is 42 years old!!

We are expecting snow here in Georiga!  As the clouds began to move into the area we decided to stay close to celebrate.  There is a Longhorn Steakhouse nearby, so we all ate steaks.

The bread was so delicious.  I made sure I just ate one piece 'cause I could have taken down the whole loaf with that warm sweet butter.

My food was out of the world delicious, but it didn't photograph well at all.  It's actually quite disgusting looking.  I got a fillet topped with lobster and hollandaise sauce.  It was sitting on asparagus and served with mashed potatoes.  It was a great steak full of flavor and yummy lobster pieces.  Gary ordered a ribeye and he enjoyed it.  He is kind of a steak snob.  He prefers to grill steak at home so it's cooked to his liking.  He was pleasantly surprised by a nice juicy steak!

The kiddos ordered smoothies as their drink and they were topped with whipped cream and cherries.  It seemed like they ordered dessert first!  We had a nice birthday dinner and then we headed home to sit by the fire.  The weather is nice and cold and perfect for some snow.   We are hoping to get snow tonight since we had a snow day today.  The kids were home from school and watched for snow all day long, but all we got was rain.  Hopefully they will wake up to some white stuff to play in!

Happy Birthday to Gary!

in our pajamas

This post is a post in which every sentence should be followed by

IN OUR PAJAMAS!!

Ready, set, GO......

This weekend was freezing cold her in Georgia.  We pretty much hibernated all weekend long and didn't leave the house.  We are on a 'saving money' mission and so we did everything fun here at home we could think of.

We played Life!

They played Legos and the used a Home Depot box to set up Lego scenes.

We did gymnastics and worked on our flexibility.

We read books.

We played on our iPads.

We ate decorator dogs, otherwise known as hot dogs with all kinds of toppings.

We played poker.

Hayden kicked his feet back while eating popcorn.

We played multiple games of checkers.

The mini chef made cupcakes.

They were cute and tasted amazing!

We had a fun weekend just the four of us...... In our pajamas!

A random warm day ...YAY!

The weather was perfect for the park this afternoon.  This coming weekend is going to be super cold, so we headed outside after school.  Sometimes you just have to put homework on the back burner!!  We needed some sunshine!  The kid all ran and played and kicked the soccer ball and played tag.  It was great to see and hear them out of breath!

Today is her half birthday!

Look at this girl!

This picture was taken on January 11, 2006 when she was 6 months old.  AHHHH!!!

She's so wittle!

She had no teeth.  Isn't it great how they get all these teeth as a babies and then lose them when they are children.  I just love that toothless grin.

I'm shocked that she is happy in this picture because she hated tummy time.

Layla loves celebrating half birthdays as much as I like celebrating real birthdays, so I joined in on her celebrations today!

Happy happy  half  to my favorite gal!

on the mend

I pretty much jinxed myself saying I haven't been sick in ages.  I'm siiiicckkkk.  I'm using every single oil I can to get through this cold though.  I'm rubbing and diffusing and breathing in the hot steamy oily water.  It helps and I'm going to cut my sick time in half.  I'm on a glass half full mission to blast this cold away.  After a friend recommended it I used rosemary and peppermint in my boiling pot.  My skin looks amazing because I got a facial at the same time. ;-)

Lily is enjoying my lazy days on the couch.  I've read 2 books so far this week and am starting a 3rd book.  I'm missing my workouts, but I just want to feel better, so I'm not guilting myself to death about missing a week of lifting weights.

My throat hurt so bad this morning and I had enough.  I don't usually ingest my oils, but DID! I poured honey and a few drops of each of these oils, peppermint, frankincense and lemon into this medicine cup.  I swallowed it down really fast and WOW!  I thought I was going to breath fire for a few minutes, but dang it.  I CAN BREATHE again!

I whipped up a 'whatever I had in the cabinets' chicken soup and enjoyed it with an audience in front of the fire.  These dogs are starving, you'd think I never feed them.  The kids will be home from school soon and I'm hoping to feel better.  Gary has been out of town and you know crazy things happen when he's gone, like this and this and kinda like this week.  I'm siiiiccckkk.  LOL!

It's Friday and a cold front is heading our way.  I'm ready to stay all warm and snuggly this weekend and enjoy time with Gary when he gets back into town tomorrow!

the big grape bubble gum challenge

We started off our New Year with a bubble gum blowing contest!

The kids love chewing gum.  They are always asking for gum gum gum. While shopping I saw grape flavor Hubba Bubba at the checkout line and it made me want to chew gum.  I remember blowing bubbles as a kid and it was the best fun.

Y'all, chewing gum isn't for sissies.  That piece of Hubba Bubba was huge.  I couldn't get it chewed without a jaw cramp.  I finally started blowing bubbles after about 10 minutes of chewing.  It's like that big blob grows 4,000 times its original size in your mouth and promptly loses it's flavor and gets hard.

Chewing gum and life issues are similar huh?!  Some things start out full of flavor and you have to conquer that blob to get it to the bubble stage. Then after a few bubbles you move on and spit out the hard gum.

Leave it to me to over analyze our gum chewing fun. ;)

Back to the contest...
We all gave it our best shot, but I think I actually had the biggest bubble.  I tried to get one of Gary's giant bubbles on camera, but it popped too fast, so we're just gonna say I won. I'm pretty sure the kids are ready for a rematch soon!

I love talking, talking is the best!

It's no secret, I'm a talker.

I'll talk to anyone.  I'll overshare sometimes.  I'll talk when I shouldn't be talking.  I'm a talker.  I love to talk and once upon a time I had an apron made by my mother that said, "Help I'm talking and I can't shut up!"  That's a true story.

I don't think talking is a bad thing.

Gary has to be married to me and he has to put up with my talking.  He always knows how I feel unless I'm throwing a temper fit in which I promise nothing is wrong.  Then an agrument starts.  "I know you Angie, clearly the look on your face shows something is wrong."  We all know how those fights go, and for me it's just for effect.  It only happens when I get really fired up!  I'm gonna tell him what is wrong by golly.  I just need to make a production of it.

I've been talking to Layla since she was born.  That poor girl has had to listen to me for years.  At the grocery store when she was a chubby little toot in the cart seat I'd talk to her about which milk to buy.  In the produce section I'd pick up an apple and show her what it was while describing it.  I'd talk to her while driving down the road about where we were heading next.  I think she gets her talking habit from me and I do indeed hope so.  Talking matters y'all.

Hayden wasn't much of a talker as a baby, but Layla talked for him.  We always knew exactly what he wanted because big sissy took care of his every need.  "Mom, he wants out of his crib.  Mom he has stinky pants!"  Once Hayden turned 3 we couldn't keep him quiet.  He still isn't as big a talker as Layla, but I think it's a guy thing.  He gets his point across when he needs to and that boy is down right hilarious!

Thankfully we are all talkers, even the silly dogs find a way to communicate in their own way.

As the kids get older I want the talking to continue.  I pray it continues. Communication in ANY relationship is the key.  That means communication with friends, bosses, spouses and teachers. Talk, talk, talk,

Layla is 10 and 10 gets hard y'all.  I have my own opinions of the age 10, but right now I see Layla wanting to stay little so bad, but starting to want to be more mature all at the same time.  Her opinions are very important to us and we listen and try to understand her angle while keeping in mind that she is 10.  Sometimes she can have very imaginative ideas, but I want to know what is going on if she will share.  No matter what it is I will listen and try to be objective.  I just hope she keeps talking because so far that is what keeps our family in sync.

All this to say, if you are or have a dog, baby, child, teenager, adult or senior citizen, communication is the key to everything.  Why don't people talk?  Why can't we all just be open and honest and try to talk through anything and everything that's going on.  Most the drama on half the shows I watch are about the characters not talking and sharing their feelings.  I know, I know, that is TV and that makes for great drama.  But that is just a reference. Sometimes I just roll my eyes and scream at the characters making their lives harder than they should be.

Real life...let's talk about it, but let me have my coffee if it's early in the morning!

Happy New Year!

We were planning a pretty low key NYE 2015.  Gary had to work and I worked here at home cleaning up Christmas and giving the house a good cleaning while I was in the cleaning mode.  We were both ready to chill out and hang with the kiddos and turn in before 12:00.

We ate pizza and I took pictures while the kids and my one big kid had monster truck races.  Then about 9:30 the neighbor texted us and said they were doing fireworks.  Who can say no to fun with the neighbors?  We went outside and enjoyed watching boys be boys.

Thankfully the weather turned chilly for us and we wore jackets and coats, except my guys still work shorts.  It's almost comical now. Ugh!

This one is my favorite!!

Layla did a sparkler.  Just one.  She wasn't in the fireworks mood, but she had fun watching!

After the fireworks show we headed inside to watch the ball drop and pop some popcorn!

We even busted out the selfie stick and the kiddos played Wii until 2:30 am.  I was shocked when we looked at the clock and it was so late.  How did that happen?  Our early night turned late, but we didn't care.  We had a great time!

And yes, that is a box on the couch.  Two boxes taped together to be exact.  The children got all kinds of Christmas gifts this year, but they made a fort out of a box and have been playing inside it all week long.  Goodness gracious.  (sigh)  Next year we are just getting them boxes.  ;)

Happy New Year friends!
