the patting myself on the back post ;-)

I'm trying to raise readers y'all, but I know reading isn't for everyone.  My hope is that Layla and Hayden will see me reading and they may love it too.

As part of their homework the munchkins read for 20 minutes everyday.  They have to read quietly and you better believe I join in.  Knowing the kiddos would be reading anyway is what motivated me to challenge myself to read more in 2016.

Last December I decided I'd read 25 books in one year.  I wasn't sure if I would make the time to do it, but I DID!  It was so fun and I really branched out and read some books that I wouldn't normally have picked for myself.  I ended up falling in love with Goodreads.  I love having buddies to follow so I can see what they are reading.  I have my favorite friends and if they love a book I try to read what they've read.  It is a wonderful tool for reviewing books before I read them.

I'm planning to do another challenge in 2017 and I know it will be harder for me since I have a job now, but I think I can do it!

read read and read

Wow.

The kids are back into the groove of school after this fourth day.  They seem to be adjusting to their new schedules quite well.

For Hayden second grade is all about reading.  He has to read so much and he's not really a fan of reading.  BUT he's doing it and not complaining too much!  Layla has to read for 20 minutes every day also.  I enjoy a little quiet time after homework and snacks, so the reading in a nice little chill time before the chaos of dinner preparation starts.

P.S.  Why oh why dont' they like reading?  I'd sit and read all day long if I could.

Copy Cat Reader

Layla reads every night as part of her homework for school.  Usually she gets a new book each night and so Hayden and I sit down and listen to her read.

Can you tell Hayden idolizes his sister?

He even put on the same sleep shirt she is wearing.

Thankfully seeing Layla read has made Hayden take an interest in reading.

He hasn't really shown an interest in books until just a few weeks ago.  I've tried to read to him and we'd get about 2 pages into a book and he was off playing with Legos.

I'm thankful his big sister is a good example for him!
