Two Cells!

Layla worked her tail off this morning creating an animal and plant cell.

As a 5th grade project the kids had to make model cells.  I took her to Hobby Lobby where she went crazy with ideas and picked out fun sparkly things to glue to Styrofoam.  Layla reminded us that this was her project to do and that her teachers wanted her to do most all the work.  I'm totally cool with that.  Projects make me nervous, so Gary is usually the project parent and that is fine by me forever.

Layla did have to have Gary's help with the hot glue gun.  Regular glue just wasn't sticking, so she told dad where to glue and when.  I think they did a fabulous job and I just love Gary's patience!  He burnt his fingers a time or two, but he had fun!  The messiest part was definately sawing the styropham.  Geeesh...that stuff was everywhere.  Hayden used the spare parts for a cell project of his own.  He created a fun monster of sorts to keep him busy while they worked and worked on Layla's creations.  He doesn't get on Instagram much (Layla insisted he have his own account) but he posted his pictures on his Instagram page.  I had to giggle at that!

The pictures don't do the cell project justice. It so bright and colorful and she made a great key to show and label each individual cell part.  I think she did a great job and she had fun with it.  I hope she gets a great grade!   I'm pretty sure at this point in the school year so far science is Layla's favorite subject!  I always liked science too!

Blizzard Bags

I think we missed about 12 days of school due to the winter weather this year.  12 days of no learning = days added onto the end of the school year.  Yucky huh?

Enter the blizzard bag.  It's a folder for Layla and a gallon size baggie for Hayden.  It is filled with worksheets and activities for the kids to complete and it will equal a day of classwork.

At first it seemed like a pain in the butt, but the kids loved it!  They sat down this morning and did almost the entire workload.  They had fun and helped one another.  I sat between them with a cup of coffee and offered my assistance when needed.  It was a fun lazy Saturday morning activity until we got the the P.E. part.

Yes, there was even a physical education worksheet.  It was so cute to watch them stretch their muscles as they do in P.E. class.  There were activities like 'run in place for 3 minutes' and 'how may push-ups can you do in one minute.  It was a fun pick me up activity for after they did their classwork.

Each kiddo has a few more worksheets to complete and hopefully we'll finish tomorrow so they can turn them in on Monday.  The work isn't due for 10 days, but I think we'll be better off getting it done while the weather is still a bit chilly.  When warmer temperatures show up we'll be outside every single day!  We are thrilled to have spring SUN!

Understanding 100

Happy Monday y'all!  I am thrilled both children are at school today after almost a week off!
Mommy time...whoo hoo!!!

Layla worked very hard on her 100th day of school project.
I think it turned so cute, so I decided to share it with y'all.
And...this IS our family scrapbook...so I like to put a little bit of everything here on this blog!

The goal of the project was to gain an understanding of the number 100.
We were supposed to take 10 groups of 10 things to equal 100 things.

We decided to do a pizza theme.  I stopped at the local pizza place and they donated a box...how nice was that?  And as you can see we raided the craft closet.  It was so fun to watch Layla glue, cut and create.  She did need our help though.

Some of the pieces wouldn't stick with regular glue, so we had to bust out the hot glue gun.  Everything is on there tight now.  Sadly due to the snow they weren't actually in school on the 100th day.  I'm sure they will have fun celebrating this week.  Layla looked so cute leaving this morning carrying her pizza!

Next project for school...a Valentine's day box!  Fun, fun...kindergarten is so fun!

Have a great day :)
