We got baths today!!!

Lily and Daisy went to the groomer this afternoon and they got fresh baths, a haircut for Daisy and new collars.  They are feeling all fiesty and clean and ready for Christmas.

We recently found out that Hayden is allergic to dogs. He isn't so much allergic to Daisy, her breed is hypoallergenic, but Lily sheds enough in a day to create a small mouse.  We know she is the allergen in our family, but we love her anyway.  She's our big black bear and we will clean like mad people to help ease his ezcema!

Merry Merry from our Christmas puppies!

chop chop, snip snip!

This little lady got a much needed haircut today.

It's been long overdue and she ended up getting 5 inches chopped off.
We have been fighting like cats and dogs for weeks over brushing her hair.  She finally decided to get a shorter style and I couldn't be happier.

I love the before and after shots.
She is beautiful either way, but her shorter hair definitely looks more fresh and flowy!

Yay for a fun bob!

she got a trimmy trim

My sweet girl got a much needed trim today and of course I have to document this for future reference! She isn't a fan of getting her hair cut and I'm not sure why.  I'm just glad she was a champ and got an inch or so trimmed off.  Hopefully this will help with some of the tangles we've been having lately!

Big boy!

Hayden needed a haircut so bad! We let it get wild and out of control. I've had the hardest time styling it in the mornings because it has gotten so long.

I took him to Sport Clips this morning. While we were waiting his turn for a haircut he told me he was a big boy and I didn't need to stand beside him while he got his hair cut.

I agreed to let him sit there all alone. He looked so sweet sitting there. He looked so big and he acted so big too. He told the stylist we were moving. He told her his favorite football team was Baylor. He also talked to the man sitting next to him about the Ryder Cup. I was blown away! He acted 14, not 4.

Sniff Sniff!

My little boy is turning into a little man! I'm so proud!

First Day of Pre-K

Today was Hayden's first day of Pre-K and he was so excited.  I'm glad he was excited because last year he cried and clung to me like press n seal wrap for the first 2 weeks of school.  If you've used press n seal you know that was exhausting!

This morning he was pumped!  He walked in and grabbed his pencil box and started coloring.  When I picked him up this afternoon he hugged the snot out of me and said he loved school and he said he wished he could stay there all day long!  haha!  Well, you kinda did buddy!

Once we got home he asked to watch the Leap Frog DVD, The Letter Factory.  He said his teachers recommended it.   Lucky us, we own it, so I popped that DVD in faster than any movie I've ever set up for him.  He was just asking to learn.  Yippee!

Since BOTH kids were at school I used my free time wisely.  I got my hair cut.  I think my hair was the longest it has ever been.  I loved it, but I was ready for a change.   If you follow me on Instagram this is old news, but I got 5 inches cut off the back of my hair.  My new style is a  fun long 'swing' cut, so my hair is longer in the front than in the back.  It's fun though because it doesn't have any layers.  When I grow my hair out it will grown out nicely.   I enjoy growing my hair out and then cutting it off.  I get really bored with the same do.  I like to mix it up!

Tonight I am resting.  After I left my hair appointment I have been busy every second.  I ran by Kroger to grab a few things and by the time I got home to put them up I had to get Hayden and Layla from school.  Once I got home and grabbed snacks for them I needed to work out, so after 45 minutes on the stationary bike it was time to cook dinner and help with baths.  After I tucked the kids into bed I showered and plopped down on the couch in a puddle of exhaustion.

I just remembered the cutest thing Layla said tonight before bed.  She said, "Mom, I am so excited about school tomorrow!  We are doing a science experiment!!"  She is excited about science and he is excited about learning his letter sounds.  I'd say today was a success all the way around!

Monday's mumbles

I have been avoiding my blog lately.  I think I have posted less this month than ever in the history of my blog.  We have been super busy, so that is half the problem. A good problem thought!  I have so much to say to it, but I'm not ready to say it yet.  Yes, I have been posting our day to day events.  I have been posting all about our fun summer.  I need to vent a little more and get my feelings out there.  Our little family has tons of stuff going on right now, but I'm just not sure where to start explaining it all.  I'm a really transparent person, but right now I am having a hard time figuring out what to say.  I know the right words will come, but for now I will wait to say them.  We have big changes coming up!

Today Layla got her hair trimmed for back-to-school.  She has finally grown out her 'bob' from a year or so ago.  Her hair is basically all one length now.  She looked so big sitting in that chair!

After her haircut we went to Target and hung out for a couple of hours.  She tried on tons of clothes, but we didn't buy anything.  She is in between sizes.  It's gonna take a little more time and research to find her the back to school wardrobe she wants.  It sure is fun shopping.  And stressful too.  She's kinda like her Momma.  I have a hard time making decisions.  I'm going to need to try to help her realize what she wants and go for it.  I am not crazy about my "wishy washy" trait!

I still need to post about our super fun camping weekend at Lake Whitney.   I'll catch up this week and post some fun pictures of that.  We went camping and met up with another family from our neighborhood.  We had tons of fun!

Tomorrow is Hayden's 4 year check-up.  He is worried he's gonna have to get shots.  Poor little guy.  He said, "Are those needle things sharp?"  I hate getting those silly vaccines, but they are necessary!

Look at this picture I found of the kids on Facebook.  They were so little.   Hayden's head was so big.  It makes me smile!  Time sure does fly when you're having fun!

Random thoughts for Friday

I am in a weird funky mood today.  I don't really get it, but I'm sure it will go away soon.  I think I should exercise, and maybe that will put me in a better mood.  This wild week is catching up to me.

Layla woke up this morning NOT wanting to go to school.  The first thing she said when she woke up was, "Mommy do I have to go to school?  I don't want them to take my picture."  She was less than thrilled about today being picture day.  Her eye is a little more swollen than it was yesterday.  I feel so bad for her.  Layla has great self esteem for a 6 year old, but a little girl commented on her busted eye so she is a bit sensitive. Seeing her feeling sensitive makes me feel all 'momma bearish.'

This post is a bit all over the place and random.

I sometimes get the urge to drink coffee in the middle of the day.  This is new to me.  I usually only want coffee in the morning.  Lately I want it in the afternoon or at night.  I don't even want it for the caffeine pick me up, I just want it for the coffee taste.  Does that make me old?  That reminds me, I have been drinking water right out of the tap.  No ice.  When I was a little girl I thought my grandma was weird when she'd do that.  I thought only old people did that, and now I do it. I like my water cool, not freezing cold. Oh gosh...I'm officially old.

Y'all, Hayden is so silly.  He talks about every single thing that goes on with his body.  So excuse the disgusting-ness of the next few sentences.  Yesterday he said, "Daddy, my boogers are gone.  It's all because of your help daddy.  Thanks for getting that big sharp green booger out of my nose."  Poor guy.  A sharp booger?  Wow.  That is the funniest thing.  I asked if he was telling us stories, but he insists he had a sharp booger.  Sigh.  Oh and every single time he does his big business on the potty we get a very descriptive play by play.  He is such a boy.  I'm 100% positive Layla has never once commented on her "business."  He is so stinkin' funny and descriptive.  I only hope he keeps it up when it comes to other things.  He might be an excellent writer, only I hope it isn't about bodily functions.  Oh wow...I told you this was random.

Since we are talking about disgusting things let me just tell you what happened to me on Wednesday.  It doesn't even come close to what happened to Layla the same day, but it is funny!

See that brown glob of a dot on my forehead.

That is bird poop.  I know it looks like a mole, but it's not a mole.  Birds always pick me.  I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me.  It happened in a parking lot when I was getting out of the car.  All I could do was laugh.  I'm thankful I had baby wipes in the car.  Oh! SO gross.   Someone told me long ago that when a bird does it's business on you it it good luck.  We shall see!  I wasn't feeling so lucky while scrubbing my forehead with a baby wipe.

Have you ever wanted to take someone else's hair and put it on your head?  Random, yes I know.  But I have been debating highlighting my hair for the last few months.  I am ready for a change. Summer hair is always fun.  Anyway, Hayden got his hair cut today at Sport Clips and one of the stylists had adorable hair.  I had a serious case of 'hair envy.'

Hayden's hair was out of control.  It was to the point where we could barely style it anymore.   He did great getting his hair cut yesterday.  About a year ago we had one bad experience getting his hair cut, but since then he has done awesome sitting still.
He looks like a clean cut little man again!  Call me old fashioned, but I love the look of a clean cut little boy hair cut.  I think we is so handsome with his fresh new do!

Yesterday when I was washing and cutting our lettuce for the week I got grossed out.  Yuck!  That brown stuff??  It is dirt in the organic romaine lettuce.  I know it is just dirt, but I think it is nasty.  I wish I could have used soap when I washed the lettuce.  I did scrub it extra hard.
Would you eat it?  Or throw it away?

Several of y'all have asked me about Daisy Mae.  She seems to be doing great since she is our only dog.  She doesn't seem to miss Harley very much.  She and Harley never saw eye to eye anyway.  I was wondering how she'd act once she was the only pup.  I wondered if she'd mourn the loss of Harley.  The answer seems to be no.  I'm pretty sure she thinks she is the princess of the house.   We aren't planning to get another dog.  Daisy is all we can handle at this time.  Since Bogey was a wild and crazy  untrainable dog (who found another home) we are a bit gun shy when it comes to getting another pet.  I think our family is great just as it is today!

Layla visited our dermatologist yesterday.   I was concerned about how her eyebrow would heal and if it was glued properly.  Thankfully the doctor said everything looked great.  I hope the healing goes smoothly and if our predictions are correct her eyebrow should cover the entire scar (if there is one).

Well, that concludes my randomness for today.

I hope you have a great Friday and a happy weekend!

monday madness

The munchkins and I laid low this past weekend.  They have both had a cough-cold for a week or so.  It seems like once one gets better the other gets sick, and then it starts all over again.  So I decided to veg out this weekend since Gary was out of town.  Here are a few pictures of our adventures:

We watched movies...tons of Christmas movies.
Layla wore her favorite Christmas gown and then we washed it and she wore it again.

We made Santa beards. They were supposed to be elf hats, but we got carried away.

I made cupcake/cookie treats that failed. They tasted good, but look terrible.  I can't believe they didn't work out. And they are supposed to be red. Not pink. And I can't even post a photo of the green ones. They are really ugly.

I put socks on the kids arms/hands and made them clean the table and chairs. Our table and chairs get so nasty. Yuck!

Layla loved helping.  She went to town and was a big helper.

Hayden was bored in 2.3 seconds.

I was convinced that the two days at home were just what we needed to get over our sickness. Until Layla broke into a horrible fever last night at around 9:00pm.  She was piping hot!  I knew when I woke up this morning I was going to call the doctor.  After Hayden had a sleepless night too I knew they just weren't better.

I took these pictures with my phone, so they aren't the best quality.

We got ready and thankfully our dr. office got us in bright and early this morning.  Layla was so nervous about going to see Dr. Shori, but she did great.  Hayden did okay too, but he has recently learned how to sass me.  I got so mad at him...ughhh! He says "no" so mean.  But I know he isn't feeling well.  Turns out Layla and Hayden both have sinus infections.  The colds they both started with just turned worse.  Layla had been complaining of a weird sound in her ear.  She has never had an ear infection in all of her 5 years, but she has an infection in her right ear.  Not even the one that is bothering her...weird right?  Hayden's ears look fine, but he has a really bad cough and tons of drainage.  And...the doctor was going to test them each for strep, but said she was going to treat them anyway, so why test them? Whatever...I thought that was weird. Anyway, we got 2 bottles of amoxicillin.  Hopefully this will fix them right up in time for Christmas.  Even though they are feeling crummy, they have both been pretty sweet.  When I am not feeling well I am a big, grouchy, cranky bear.  They have had their moments, but have done pretty good.  Kids are so resilient.

Hayden even sat still and was a good boy while getting his hair cut.  His hair had gotten so long. It was bad, but he is back to looking cool again.  I think he felt better after his haircut because he mentioned going to a restaurant with one of his girlfriends. Ha!  I can't make this stuff up.  Layla and I busted out laughing after he mentioned her...ha!  Little Miss Ava has a spell on my boy, and they are only 2 years old.

After picking Gary up from the airport, we are home and the kids are napping.  I'm sure they will feel better soon!  But wow....it never fails something crazy always happens when daddy travels!

a haircut, swimming lessons and staples

Our little man got his 3rd haircut yesterday.

He did great!

I think he looks so big in this picutre...his little hands holding onto the arm rests, and just a little head sticking out above the cape.

His hair was so long, it would barely spike...now he is back to normal.

And about the swimming lessons...

What a difference a few days can make.

The first two lessons we had some major tears.
She just doesn't want to do it, but when she gets into the water
(after her teacher drags her in) she really does great!

There goes my little swimmer.
After lesson #3 yesterday Layla was swimming with assistance across the pool.

(sorry for the blur...there is a bar right in front of me, and when I get excited it gets in my way.)

Layla's teacher (who needs a gold medal) moves further away each time.
Which means Layla goes further and holds her breath longer each time.

I'm one proud momma...can I get a whooo wheee!

After lesson # 2 she got this page. After each accomplishment she gets another sticker.
What is it with stickers and kids?  I don't remember liking them as much as kids do now.
Layla can't wait to swim and earn the next sticker.  Her face was beaming after getting a sticker yesterday.

It has been 10 days since Callaway's tumor surgery and he got his staples out yesterday.
He is pretty much back to normal.  He is acting normal, but still has a cough, so they refilled his antibiotic.

He is such a great dog!

And Harley is too.
I put photos of all my other kids on here, so I just had to give Harley some face time too.

After swimming lessons today we are going to come home and rest.  We aren't used to running around town in the heat four days a week.  We enjoy our down time in the summer, especially when it is super hot!  Next week we have 4 more lessons Monday-Thursday and hopefully Layla will be closer to being a little fish in the water.  Happy Thursday, and try to keep cool!

Got a haircut...actually, he got 'em all cut

Hayden got his first haircut yesterday.

We were out and about running errands and decided to hit Sport Clips.

He did so good, and sat very still...

Until the end and then he was done...Bless his heart!

Excuse the background...I forgot to take pics at Sport Clips because he was upset.
Uggg...why didn't I pic the cereal aisle??
I finally remembered in the grocery store....on the wine aisle.

I think he looks so big now!
