our dinner tonight

(her tongue makes me laugh)

I did a semi-homemade recipe for pasta sauce today.  I have been experimenting with making homemade sauce for a few months, but I'm scared of ruining it.

Gary and I recently branched out and instead of making pasta sauce with ground beef or turkey we are trying different sausages.  We accidentally bought HOT this time, but it was still good.

I chopped half a red onion, a stalk of celery, one carrot, a medium yellow squash and a medium zucchini squash.  I dumped it all into the slow cooker and poured a jar of pasta sauce into the slow cooker.  I let it simmer on low from about noon until 5:00.  I browned the sausage in a skillet and then added it to the sauce.  I boiled the whole wheat pasta and then threw it into sauce and let it all sit for about 5 minutes.

I served this spaghetti and sausage creation with fresh green beans from our produce co-op.
The green beans were amazing.  Layla ate three servings.  I was shocked!!!

I boiled the green beans with garlic and 1 slice of bacon yesterday.  I put them right into the fridge and the flavors meshed over night.  They are amazing beans.  I loved eating green beans from my grandparents garden when I was a little girl.   I want to grow some in my backyard.

What have you been cooking lately?

I need to try cooking green beans with garlic. I always do bacon. I buy the Hormel bacon bits that are made from real bacon. Love them!
