Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree

Well, my favorite holiday (Thanksgiving) is over and the Christmas season is upon us.  I love Christmas time, but I love teaching the kids to be thankful before the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season.  Thanksgiving is a calm and soothing holiday and I just won't decorate the tree or my house before we celebrate and show our gratitude for all we have.

We found the perfect tree and we love it!

Gary strung the lights and I hung the balls on it, but the kids played outside and we enjoyed the wonderful warm weather, so we didn't fully decorate with the other ornaments.  Our tree seems to have a little lean going on.  Oh my!

She's a a pretty tree!  I just love her and soon she will be full of ornaments from years past!

Saturday morning bike ride

Gary bought the kids Strider bikes last week and they have been dying to ride them.  The scenery was amazing.  Everything is budding and greening up.  It was a very beautiful stroll.

Strider bikes are basically bicycles without pedals.  They are great for teaching kids balance and preparing them to ride a motorcycle.

Gary was working on Saturday morning, so I took the kids on the route I usually run.  We had the best time on our adventure.  We stopped to tie Layla's shoe and a nice couple stopped to chat with us for a few minutes.  They were sweet to take a picture of us.

It rained the night before and so we made sure to hit every single puddle of water we saw.

The kids had fun stopping and pushing the button for the crosswalks.

I only took my iPhone, but I need to take my big camera on our next walk.  I was in picture taking heaven, but what else is new?!?

The strider bikes are a huge hit!  I can see the kids riding them all summer long.
Thanks daddy!

snail obsessed

The kids are loving their pet snails.  Hayden is showing me what the snail does with his eyes.  "His eyes go in and out mom!"

Hayden caught a snail and we kept it in a plastic storage container covered with press n seal wrap. I think we threw away all our fun bug containers when we moved.  The kids were thrilled when I brought home these fun critter keepers.  I decided to get Layla and Hayden each their own container and I'm glad I did. We currently have 5 snail friends!

Hayden is the master of the largest snail and Layla is owns the smaller slimy friends.

It really is cute to see the kids clean the cages, replace the grass and water the snails.

Every single day is an adventure in our house...I love it!

I found these awesome containers at Toys R Us!

a movie and the mall

Spring break is supposed to be all fun and exciting, but I'm feeling grumpy. The snow is putting a damper in our week and I am feeling like negative Nelly.  Gary took off work so we are making the best of our time together as a family.  We haven't ventured too far away from home yet.  We weren't sure if the roads would be nasty.  But we are still having fun dang it!

The weather makes me wanna eat this whole bag of Twix Eggs.  Yep...Twix eggs.

Gahhhh.  They are so good, but really the Reese's eggs are better.
I'm a sucker for peanut butter.

Monday we took the kids to a movie.  It was such a cute movie with a great message.  We all really enjoyed it.  I really enjoyed eating half a large bag of popcorn. Poor Gary he didn't know he should have gotten his own bag.  What is it with movie theater popcorn?  I can't eat a few pieces slowly.  I have to SHOVE it into my mouth as fast as possible as if someone is about to take it away from me.  I always get a popcorn head ache and I always eat the corn anyway.  What is wrong with me?  It's like you walk into a theater and breathe the air...you must eat the CORN.  ALL OF THE CORN.  See what I mean...I blame the weather for my crazyness right now.  I had to really floss after the popcorn eating contest also.  Holy moly the kernels get stuck in my teeth something awful.  Ok...TMI and now I'm changing the topic to soda.  Why do you have to drink a soda with movie theater popcorn?  Honestly I don't usually drink soda.  I mean I will use it in a mixed drink now and then, but we don't buy soda for daily consumption.  Oh my eating is bad lately, but HEY Jack...It's Spring Break.

Look at this mess of an iPhone.  We went to the mall today to have this fixed to the tune of $89.00.  OUCH!  I dropped my phone not only once, but twice.  AFTER HAYDEN DROPPED HIS iPod touch.  What is wrong with our hands that neither one of us can hold onto these pricey little devices?  His was cheaper to fix, but still.  It's like buying tires.  You have to do it even though you don't wanna.  I didn't want glass to chip off any longer.  I was leaving a glass trail.  Did I mention I had to leave my phone with them while we shopped?  I missed it so much.  I'm pathetic.

We ate lunch and then had ice cream treats.  I ordered salted caramel truffle ice cream and I almost went back for another scoop.  It was to die for.  The kids got Playdoh.  Yep.  That yellow stuff has enough dye in it to choke a chicken.  It is vanilla ice cream with multi-colored sugar cookie chunks.  It was gooooUUUood (said in my best cousin Eddie voice)!!  Gary got his favorite mint chocolate chip.

These two little heathens needed to burn off some steam.  Wow ... maybe I should have done the same thing.   We let them play at the nasty, germy mall play area, ahem I mean the fun, super cool play area.  Germs make their immune systems better right?!

There is our Spring Break Monday and Tuesday in a nutshell.  Also we are all really addicted to Candy Crush. Gary and I are bad addicted. Oh and the kids won't sleep in.  And Lily won't either.  So we have that going for us.  And now I am off to get an attitude adjustment....SEND US THE SUNSHINE!

Christmas Eve

I'm still feeling pretty crummy, but the Christmas festivities must go on!
The kids were bouncing off the walls today with excitement and anticipation.

I am really sad that we weren't able to attend Christmas Eve services tonight.  I couldn't stop coughing and sniffling long enough.  It didn't seem right for me to get other families sick on Christmas Eve.

We made the best of our day.  The kids opened a few of their presents and we put them to good use.  We had a Wii tournament.  They each got a new Wii game and we also got a family game we can all four play together.  We had a fun time playing except I am really way to competitive.  I get so frustrated when I can't play and WIN.  All of my people laugh at me when I get all riled up.  It burns me up!  haha!

This evening we had an early dinner and did a king crab leg boil.  We boiled corn, potatoes and crab legs and dipped it all in a butter bath.  It was awesome!  The kids had a great time and so did Gary and I.  It was a fun dinner and I think the kids love crab legs!

We baked chocolate chip cookies for Santa, but Layla decided he needed frosting and sprinkles too.

Mmmmm!  Cookies are yum.
Tonight my sweet tooth is out of control.  I just want to eat every cookie in sight!

Our Christmas tradition lives on.  We all got a brand new pair of PJ's and Layla and I promptly changed from one set of pj's to another.  We have been Laaaay.Zeeee!

The babes sprinkled reindeer food and then we tucked them into bed for the night.  I bet it took them a whole hour to calm themselves down for the night.   I remember that feeling though. I just loved Christmas as a kid and I still do.  I'm just a kid myself, but now I love giving more than getting.  I love to see the joy in the kids eyes on Christmas morning.

Merry Christmas Eve everyone and Happy Birthday to Jesus!

rough & tough 4 wheeling dude

It is no secret Hayden loves all things with wheels.  He loves his battery powered 4 wheeler and he drives super fast laps around our backyard anytime he is outside.  I remember last year at this time he loved all things Toy Story.  That's the thing about kids...their phases and loves change so often.

Gary recently gave him a pair of motorcycle riding glasses with flames on them.  They match his 'flames' helmet.  Hayden is one happy matchy matchy boy!

I am thankful for that helmet.  As you can see we have a little dare devil on our hands!
