Curly Q

I shared the excitement Layla had about her curly hair after the spa birthday party she attended, but I don't think you fully understand just how much she loved her hair.  She begged and begged and begged me to curl her hair once the curls wore off.  She wouldn't let me wash her hair for two days after the party.  The girl is obsessed with curls!

I was in awe of Layla's curls too.  I honestly had no idea her hair could curl like that, and it lasted for three days!!  I have tried to curl her hair and I was just under the impression that it was to thick to hold curls.  Well, the stylist said Layla had amazing hair for curling and the pictures prove it.  The stylist told me I needed a new curling iron; a decent one that heats up hot.  She recommend a few brands and I decided to go ahead and make a trip to Sally's to get one.  I ended up purchasing a Helen of Troy curing iron.  I also got a waver and a new hair dryer.  I couldn't wait to get home to play and experiment.

Tuesday ended up being a snow day so I curled Layla's hair!  She loved it.  It was my first time so it took me about an hour to do her whole head.  I really need to work on parting her hair better.  I think once I learn how to separate it into small sections it will look better.  Layla was in heaven for about 3 hours and then her curls all fell out.  She was upset, but I told her we'd just have to get a better product to hold the curls.  If you have a good hairspray recommendation I'd love to know what works for you!

I am so happy Layla is finally excited about doing new things with her hair.  She is turning into the sweetest and sassiest little lady!  It is so fun!

I have the heaviest, straightest hair ever and this is what you have to do:

1. Either skip conditioner on the wash before you're going to curl..

OR

2. Work mousse into the roots of Layla's dry hair, before you start curling. You might have to blow her hair dry again, depending on how goopy the mousse gets.

3. Use the highest heat setting on the curling iron. (I have a Hot Tools brand...they're not that expensive on Amazon!)

4. Immediately after doing each curl (don't wait for the whole head to be done), give it a shot of hair spray.

It's a little bit time-consuming, but I found that when I do it this way, the curls will last for a full two days. Before, it would only be a few hours before they'd fall right out again.

Layla's so cute about liking her curls! Let me know if any of these things help!
